I am on my 3rd season with the Nokian RSI on 15" steels in eastern MA. These tires are fantastic in ice, snow, slush, etc. where they'd outperform my old AWD Subaru with all-seasons. I've come to the conclusion that they're overkill for our winter conditions since about 80% of the time in a normal winter the roads are clear. Since last year's freakishly warm (60s+) winter wore them down a good fraction and they're down to 6/32" of tread, this will be the last year on these tires.

I am due for summer tires in the spring, so my plan is: 2nd hand 17" rims, and 16" performance snows next fall. The (premature) list of perf winter tires would be: Nokian WR G2 (the new one), Continental TS810, Dunlop Sport 3D, and maybe the new Goodyear Ultra Grip GW3.

If you need a snow tire for a lot of winter precipitation or icy conditions, I highly recommend the RSI. It kicks serious butt and is WAY superior to the ballyhooed Michelin X-Ice (which I tried driving with on two other cars). However the RSI with an R speed rating is not a performance tire so don't expect summer-tire handling.
