If any of you are detecting a gassy/oily odor inside your car, or in your garage, take 2 minutes to remove the plastic engine trim piece!
It's the black plastic shield around the oil filler. Remove it and check condition of all rubber hoses.
I now call that plastic piece the "anti-troubleshooting shield". After 30 minutes of checking every concievable hose, fitting, etc we were about to give up. Just before closing the hood, my mechanic friend pops that plastic shield off and finds the smoking gun.
The fat hose running up from behind the engine, into the rear of the valve cover was splayed wide open like it had been gutted out. Since the intake for cabin air is directly behind that area, I've been drawing in this awful smelling crankcase vent air!! Smelled much worse that driving my old carbureted '65 Mini! THANK YOU to all who suggested it might be hose related. This is a great bb.
