I now have my heads back from the machine shop after my timing belt breakage, and I'm reassembling the engine. In the Saab WIS it says to rotate the crankshaft to 60 deg BTDC, then fit the heads and cams with the dowels up and down as appropriate, and fit the cam sprokets to line up with the timing marks and then rotate the crank to almost 0 deg BTDC.

Why start at 60 deg? Why not bring the crank to zero, and then fit the cams in the proper position?

After going through all that I have, I don't like the idea of rotating the crank when its disconnected from the cams. The last thing I want to do is bend another valve!
