Yeah, it's a crying shame that the third bolt isn't accessible.
When I popped off the lower ball joint, I placed my floor jack under the stud, put a little pressure up on it, then one quick hit with a ball joint removal tool, popped right off.
Regarding the ball joint removal tool, I "borrowed" the kit that Autozone makes available. $40 (IIRC) "deposit", use it, take it back. Worked great. And the piece from the kit went right into the air hammer. One quick squeeze of the trigger. Autozone has you pay full price for the kit, then return it for full refund.
