in our cars, there is a cable that goes all the way to the TB. But the cable does not operate the throttle plate. An electric motor actually operates the the throttle plate in the TB. there is a disconnect between the physical cable operated by your foot, and the physical throttle plate.
The computer interprets what you ask for (by pressing the accelerator pedal) and what you get (what it tells the throttle to do). it is drive by wire.
The exception is limp home mode. when LHM is triggered, a solenoid in the TB is actuated and it makes a direct connection between the throttle cable and the throttle plate. So in LHM your foot actually moves the throttle plate.
