9-5 Oil Pressure and Voltmeter Gauge Installation Posted by Herb Hirsch [Email] [Profile/Gallery]

I've just completed the installation of a combination oil pressure and voltmeter gauge installation in my 2007 9-5 Aero. I've always added these gauges…..to a previous 9-5, 9000's and 900's. I'd like to know that I have an oil pressure problem before it drops so low that the idiot light comes on (6 psi.).
I've attached a couple of pictures.
1. Under the hood with all the covers back in place.
2. Shot of the junction block, oil pressure gauge sensor and the factory oil pressure switch now on the top of the junction block. The blue hose barely visible at the bottom of the junction block goes down to the port on the block formerly occupied by the factory oil pressure switch.
3. Shot of the gauge in the dash below the ACC controls. The oil pressure reading is high because I had just started the car. Fully warmed up idle pressure runs 19-20 psi.
I use the voltmeter as follows:
a. Before starting with the ignition on, I expect to see a reading close to 12 VDC. A reading of 9.5-10 VDC usually means that the battery is going. A few years ago my former 9-5 displayed a reading of 8.2 VDC....the battery was quite dead....dim lights and clicking.
b. Once started and underway a reading of 13.0-14.5 VDC is a good sign that the alternator is working.
For anyone interested in upgrading the car in a similar fashion please send me an email; I’ll forward a bill of materials listing, a summary regarding the installation and component sources.
