Also depends on where you live and the blend of gas they require.
A little diffrent, but my average MPG in mixed city driving for my 02 Aero Wagon Auto (Always Premium - Mobil) is typcially 17/18 in Winter and 19/20 in summer. I complained to my dealer and indy and both thought that was a little on the lower end but on par with their experience.
However, my recent 2000 mile round trip from MN to TX showed some interesting numbers. Full tank of gas from MN gave me 25.4 mpg, fill up in KS gave 27.6 mpg, and OK gave 25.1 (some city driving in Dallas). For return trip, TX fill gave 26.5 mpg and KS again was 27.8. For the trip, I set cruise at 76 with limited spurts for passing and this was hand calculated. Mind you this was based on very limited numbers, but I've been told that MN gas has up to 15% ethanol mixed in and so provides significantly lower fuel economy. This was very telling on this trip. What was more amazing was that I reset my SID MPG before the trip and after the first fill it was about 25. For the entire rest of the trip it slowly creeped up to around 28 when we got back to MN. I can't explain this.
Anyway just my recent experience. I had never seen my Wagon do better than 21mpg when I kept hearing high 20's to low 30's, but I run MN gas and drive very few miles on it. Bought it 2.75 yrs ago with 49K and after trip rounds up to 61K.
