OK, this may or may not be a way to figure it out but here goes? Years ago, I had a 1981 Buick Skylark V6 that lost all its power and it was isolated to the exhaust system being restricted but the Dealer didn't know if it was the muffler or catalytic converter? Since it was all welded together, starting at the outlet working to the front of the exhaust system, they drilled a small hole (maybe 1/8") in the exhaust pipe prior to the muffler and it was blowing air like crazy out of the drilled hole with the engine running. It felt like a high-pressure air nozzle. So they said it was the muffler that was plugged and replaced it, then welded a small spot over the hole they had drilled. All fixed. It was just a way to isolate the source of the back pressure without having to cut any pipe. I just remembered that troubleshooting technique all these years because I thought at the time, it was a great way to find the restriction. For what it's worth - good luck!
