Ethanol effect on mileage?

Have any of you seen any effect on gas mileage when you switched to 10% ethanol?
Our 02 Linear initially lost about 6%, but seems to have recovered, as reported on the SID. I can't say why it should recover unless the computer made some adjustments over time. The 6% loss lasted about 3 months. We live in a rural area and most of our trips are long, so it probably was not an effect of winter driving because the car is in warmup mode only for small fraction of most trips, which are usually 18 miles each way.
My '97 Ford Ranger, on the other hand, gets about 86% as far on E10 as it does on uncontaminated gas. That was measured on a recent trip from Oregon to Colorado & back. Mileage and gas purchases were carefully recorded and calculated. Speed limits in Oregon where we can only get E10 are 10 mph lower than in the states I passed thru, which do not require E10. 15.9 mpg with E10, 18.4 with pure gasoline.
