I would tend to listen to Anders; he has experience on his side.
1. You're right, there may be something under the seat. Raise the seat up and move it back and forth, and check with a flashlight.
2. Cleaning and greasing the track: Not likely. Be careful how much and what kind of grease you add. It'll get on people's shoes if you overdo it.
3. Replacement of either of the 2 switches is pretty easy; and yes, it can be done without replacing the whole seat. Check with Goldwing Saab; they may have a used unit at a much more affordable price.
One switch contains the 1, 2, 3 and M buttons. The other contains the switches for manually adjusting the seat. Checking either switch with a DMM is easy; send me an email and I'll send you the wiring diagram page out of the WIS. Be sure to specify the year and model. I'll send you the Saab part nos. that apply as well.
