Sudden alternator failure - seeking opinions Posted by Saabpilot [Email] (#134) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Saabpilot) on Mon, 14 Apr 2008 16:59:31 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
2003 9-5 Aero, 113k miles on the clock. Major service at 90k not done (shame on me; needed to save money).
Friday the alternator suffered a near complete failure. It's putting out 5.5 volts. Indie says the serpentine belt looks very good and there's no reason to replace it. This is a very well qualified, very well experienced shop.
Any suggestions or advice? Silly question, 'specially from a guy like me with many years of electrical sales / marketing experience, but what would cause a Bosch alternator to suddenly "die?"
I don't want to pay for the serpentine belt to be replaced unnecessarily, and I trust my mechanic. Just want to bounce this off all of you....
