actually it was my wife's 2003 Aero, it only has 44K miles.
I drove it a few weeks ago and saw a CEL, thought might be the gas cap or bad brand of gas. Tightened the gas cap and put in a tank of better brand of gas. The CEL went away. Daughter #1 took car out for driving lessons came back with CEL. Oh well, I said to myself. So I drove the car for a couple more days. The CEL went away and then back but the car drove fine either way.
I took car to a nearby Autozone. When I started the car at the parking lot to get the code, the CEL went away on startup but the guy pulled a P1334 and no other code. Autozone person couldn't find the code but I kinda remembered that code. I came home and put in P1334 and searched right here.
Again the car drove fine with the CEL, no sign of hesitation or miss. I pulled the plugs and the plugs seemed fine, some carbon on piston heads but no more than expected. Wife drove car for a couple more days, CEL remained.
So after a day or so, I bought a new DI and plugs from eEuroparts one evening. The parts arrived the next day (eEuropats in CT, I'm in NJ). Put in the new DI next morning, pulled fuse 17 to clear code. The CEL has not come back since.
When I took the old DI out, I sniffed around the DI cylinders and boots. Lo and behold, the DI boots for cylinder #3&4 had a bit of an electircal smell. To verify I tried #1&2 and found no such smell.
The old DI is version 3.4 the new one is 3.7. At least the DI did not totally die at an instance. The car does have the latest software update for the DI.
