2007 9-5 Aero
Starting in 2006, on the 9-5, Saab did away with the halogen headlight flasher, and the orange relay along with some wiring. I've heard various antidotes explaining this, so I'm really not sure why they did this. Reasons offered include: to save money, increase reliability, maintenance problems having both halogen and xenon systems together, all of the above or none of the above....take your pick.
In any event:
1. The owners manual is in error. It indicates that you can have halogen flashers if you remove fuse 35 (DRL). Not true. FWIW, I've removed fuse 35 also.
2. Flashers are available only if you have the DRL's on, or you have turned on the headlights.
3. I know of no plan to bring back pre-2006 headlight flasher functionality. I inspected the inboard headlight location on my 2007 9-5 and found that there is no bulb, no bulb socket and no wiring.
4. I know of no instance where headlight flashers, using the halogen lights in the inboard location, have been implemented. Truthfully, I haven't gotten to it yet. It should not be a particularly difficult undertaking.
