Broken crankshaft bearing

Hello all --
I'm currently overseas and driving a recently purchased 1998 Saab 9-5 Sedan. (for those of you keeping track of years, the 9-5 was introduced in Europe in 1998 and in the US in 1999). In any event, when I found the car, it had 156,000 km and a broken turbo. I brought a used turbo in from the US, had a local mechanic refit the turbo and the car took off like the rocket it was supposed to be. I then had the mechanic (not a Saab Master but someone smart and who I trust) do a service on the car including changing the oil, an engine flush and checking all fluids and hoses. A week later, I'm on the highway and the car simply shuts off. I tow it back to the mechanic, he does some checking and finds a broken bearing in the crankshaft.
Now, as an aside, the car had been sitting completely idle for about six to seven months before I put it back together. Is it possible that the engine flush caused some sludge to get lodged somewhere in the engine and starve the crankshaft bearings?
Thanks!
