The good news: a V6 oil and filter change is quite simple, the easiest of any Saab I've owned.
You still need access room, simply because the car sits pretty low. I straddle the curb on my street and slide underneath on a piece of cardboard. Not terribly dignified, but it works. There's nothing to remove for access.
The 13mm hex head drain plug faces rearward from the back side of the aluminum pan. A good quality box-end wrench is all that's needed, provided a gorilla didn't tighten it last time. Look up to see the filter, which screws vertically into the back of the block. It's a little tight and I've been meaning to get one of those filter "sockets" but manage to get mine out with a standard filter wrench. The filter is small, so you might get a new one and get a matching wrench at the same time. Replacing it is a snap--remember to fill it first.
I either use a new copper drainplug washer or heat up the old one between uses. I've never had any problems with drainplug leaks or rounded bolt heads.
That's it. It's a half-hour job for me now that I know what's what. A fresh fill seems to take about 4.5 quarts. I use M1 5W40 truck and turbo or whatever the heck they're calling it now.
