FUEL PUMP STRANGENESS Posted by saabsince 93b [Email] (#972) [Profile/Gallery] (more from saabsince 93b) on Fri, 9 May 2008 17:10:40 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
For the last month or so our 95 '01 Aero has been hard starting when cold. First turn of key would get cranking, but no fire. OR if it did fire it ran rough for a bit. Second turn of key did it, but then there was lots of white smoke. I was worried the smoke was a turbo or at least turbo seals.
I read on this list about fuel pump problems causing this and something about bad check valves.
On Monday night of this week my wife calls from work and the car won't start. We have it towed home and I check the WIS and swap the DIC for the spare. Still won't start. Next I find there is no noise or vibration from the fuel pump when cranking. So I assume fuel pump. Put OBD II scanner on it and no codes.
Tuesday we have it towed to Walter Wong at RIGHT SOLUTION [A loyal site advertiser] It is the pump. He has one of his guys bang on the bottom of the tank with a rubber mallet while he cranks and the car starts up. Good to know if you are stuck with a bad pump. Walter tells me it may restart many times or not at all.
Anyway, with the pump replaced the starting the great and the white smoke was gone.....at least the last couple of mornings.
Any comments from the experts here? Have we solved bad start and white smoke with a new fuel pump???
