After a 9 year haitus, I'm back into a Saab. Picked up a 2002 9-5 Aero with 45k on the clock. Cosmic Blue. Right year, right model, and perfect color. Been looking for an Aero in cosmic blue for a while. Finally found one with good mileage. I have a few questions, and yes, I have been researching, but my head is spinning with what models are known for what. So, please bear with me as I ask some repeated questions. and of course, many thanks to respondents.
- No questions on sludge or PCV. I've found the info on that.
- I have a strange noise coming from inside the cabin under the dash. Sounds a bit like a flap door creaking open and close or more like an air compressor filling up some suspension bags, then topping off, then stoping. Then repeats itself every now and then. Will do it just after shut down as well. Seems only to do it when AC system is on.
- Left front xenon lamp shutters every now and then. not bad.
- slightly rough idle when in drive and still. Fine elsewhere.
- When cold, shifting from reverse to drive results in a surge or even bordering on bang. Very rough shift. Not bad after 1 minute warm up. Reminiscent of an old 900 I had that was rough going into reverse when really cold.
- slight clicking feel in steering under first mili-second of acceleration.
- when should the timing belt and/or serp belts be replaced in an '02 Aero?
- DIC = Direct Ignition Cassett? If so, when should this be replaced and where the heck is it? I've been looking, but haven't noticed it yet.
Very pleased so far. What a car compared to my previous '88 900 S 9 years ago. I sort of took a risk on the car because it is THE car I've been looking for short of the ventilated seats. I was going to go new or newer before I found this one. I have some maintenance records which show a few oil changes with synthetic oil and some other regular maintenance. Cosmetically, it hasn't been as well cared for as I would normally do. But I guess not bad for being 6 years old already.
