Fram filters: I have used them successfully for years, but had a friend who put one on a rebuilt engine and the engine seized up -possibly due to lack of oil flow. Claim is that Fram cheapened their product to meet price demand from Walmart. Perhaps it is urban legend, and I have no first hand knowledge, but Purolator (higher performance filter) or Saab filters (or Mann or Mahle)don't cost that much more and peace of mind is worth something. Real test would be oil analysis, although the failed engine may have suffered from a defective oil filter.
