$500 DIC Job = You're getting hosed Posted by B Millar [Email] (#1109) [Profile/Gallery] (more from B Millar) on Sat, 31 May 2008 06:10:57 In Reply to: 2000 V6 DIC replacement Questions?, SM, Sat, 31 May 2008 00:44:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
You are correct, only the 2001 V6 was covered under the recall. Back in 2005 a DIC job would have been $500 (ask me how I know) but since the recall came out and Saab had to produce so many of the parts, the price came way down (to about $180 as pilotalx mentions). You really need to efore 80k miles you will get a new one free.bring it somewhere, even Autozone does it for free, to have the codes read. Even though you might not have a check engine light now, there might be a misfire code stored in the computer. Actually thinking about it, Autozone's reader may not read a code without a check engine light. You may need to being it to a Saab guy who has a Tech II. As for the job, it's very easy, just make sure there's no crud/dirt in the spark plug holes that might fall into the engine when you take the old plugs out. Also remember you're screwing them into aluminum which will strip very easily. If there's a slight inkling you may be dealing with DIC failure, especially if they're both original to the car, you may want to get them done soonish. When mine went before the recall it destroyed/melted the catalytic converter. Luckily that was covered under the DIC recall too. I'm not sure if it's a national thing or a state by state thing but there's a required government 80k mile warranty on catalytic converters. So if you really want to risk not replacing them and you happen to fry your cat, as long as you do it before 80k miles you will get a new cat for free.
