Having owned 5 9Ks (some for not so long) and just one 9-5:
The 9-5 has proven to be a lot less trouble than any of the 9Ks. With balanced tires and round rims, the ride is smoother and quieter than any 9K I've driven, the handling seems more neutral (though I've not owned an Aero, I did own a '91 9KT which came with a sports suspension). It definitely feels planted on the road. That said:
a) no matter how good an a/t may be, and IMO the one in the 9-5 is good, there's no comparison in the "driving experience" as compared with a stick. If you really, really prefer driving stick, you will never be totally happy with the 9-5.
b) The 9K definitely has more spacious rear seat.
c) the 9K may easier to support, with less electronics, and fewer nasty cheap bits from the GM parts bin. Except for the '94 Aero if it has the drive-by-wire throttle, in which case drop it like a hot rock.
I am not fond of the leather used on the earlier 9-5s, the Linear and Arc 9-5 models, and most of the '06 and later ones, but the '02='05 Aeros have top notch leather. I imagine the "premium leather" on the newest 9-5s and 9-3s is of that quality, although we may never know b/c US dealers for sure won't order a car with a $2000 leather package when the standard car already has some leather.
Of course the decision has to be yours, but if it were me, I'd keep the 9-5. Wait, it was me, and I sold my last 9K in favor of a 9-5!
