Update on ABS my issue..... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Mon, 9 Jun 2008 13:39:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
A follow-up to my ABS system malfunction posting from yesterday. I drove the car to work today, hoping to find time during the day to take it to a Dealership for diagnosis. Two brief flashes of the same four brake system lights on my 47 mile drive to work, but no prolonged illumination and no loss of speedometer.
I took it to a Dealership early this afternoon and had no symptoms on the 12 mile drive from work to Dealer.
The Tech could find no problem with the ABS module (no stored codes) and could not replicate the problem. We took a drive together listening for what I thought might be a bad rear wheel bearing (maybe affecting the sensor), but he thought it was tire noise (minor cupping and rotation is due).
His final opinion is that I have an intermittently failing wheel sensor that resets itself, but the sensor needs to be in failed state for him to find it and replace. The car is safe to drive as is, just bring it back when warning lights are "ON" for final diagnosis and repair. The best news was "No Charge" for his time today!
Of course, ten miles after I leave the Service Dept the warning lights lock into the alarmed condition, speedo drops to zero, and the car stays that way for the remaining 25 mile trip home.
We are flying out of town on Wednesday, so back to the Dealership next week for what now sounds like will be a relatively inexpensive repair.
Hopefully the Tech's opinion is correct, and maybe the other posters reporting similar problems over the weekend will have a similar outcome.
