The A/C system has a pressure sensor in it that I believe shuts off the compressor if the pressure gets too high or low. I bet you've got enough in there that it'll kick in, compress it beyond the maximum pressure, and then shut itself off. I'd bring it in somewhere, especially if you've got airbag issues that seem to be related, although I don't believe the two systems have anything to do with each other. Regardless, I would not be fooling around with the airbag system.
