Inner Air Sensor

It's that time of year again here in Delaware! Anytime the outdoor air temperature goes above 80F, the A/C struggles to keep the cabin cool in my '99 9-5 2.3L auto Sportwagon. In talking this over with my Dad he said that in his '97 Volvo 960 their was a temperature sensor located in the interior roof panel somewhere that was defective (thought the technician said that they never went bad). Once that was replaced, voila! No more cooling problems! The refrigerant is full, pressures are in spec, shrader valves replaced. However the temperature, whether it is set at 68F or Lo, the temperature is the same coming out of the vents. The fan speed ramps down even though the cabin isn't anywhere near the setpoint. Any suggestions?
