This topic has been written about nearly every week on this BB.....tons of posts to search and read over...
Some owners complain that they have "vibration issues" when using the long belt was changed to the short belt at servicing, while other woners have no problems at all.
For instance:
My 2001 LPT wagon came from the factory with the long belt, which was changed to a short belt (at ,y request) at the 60k miles major service.
With 135,000+ miles currently on this car, I've now on my 2nd short belt, and (personally) notice no difference whatsoever in performance.
The center pulley is a huge PITA to change out; That is why SAAB originally went to the short belt system.
