Any major brand synthetic oil is "good enough", but the viscosity probably won't be. The 9-5 runs fairly high oil temperature to try to reduce sludge, so a XXW-40 or XXW-50 is what I recommend. That said, Mobil 1 0W40 is, in reality, a "little bit thicker" 0W30 oil. It is a very fine product and is the most widely available oil in the USA that meets GM long-life specs, as required for the 9-3SS, but is (I think) a little too thin for 9-5s. Mobil 10W40 Long Life oil is a better choice, IMO. Also, 5W40 synthetic diesel oil (Shell Rotella synthetic, Mobil 1 "Turbo diesel" blend or Mobil Delvac 1 (same oil in different bottle)) come to mind.
A lot of us substitute the longer "Ford" style (FL400a size) filter for greater filter surface area. It has the same specs (gasket diameter, thread diameter and pitch, body diameter, drain-back valve, and pressure relief setting) as the Saab filter, and it fits fine.
