Saab 9-5 auto transmission slip - Battery?

Hi I have a 9-5 SE auto which throws up P0730 code. Transmission appears to slip and not change when it should. This was very sudden - no warning just check gearbox light on thenn problems. I was told I'd need a gearbox overhaul. However last night the battery died (No alternator light came up). I am just wondering if it is possible that the slip behaviour was a result of having a duff battery, and not enough power to work the gearbox sensor controls?? Any one help me on this one - Thanks barry
