The SRX was car of the year by one of the big magazines....but so was the 1991 Chevy Caprice....having said that, the SRX is kind of unique, there are not that many on the road, they are surprinsingly fast and ride nice (I haven't ridden in one). If you are looking for that thrid row, I would advise you to evaluate the use of it. If it's just for the kids every now and then, it's probably fine. I am a full size adult and have ridden in the third row of a Ford Explorer and it was murder, that row will only work for a person with no legs...or a child, small child that is...
If you are looking for real space in the third row, the new "SUVs" from GM maybe the way to go...I am talking about the Acadia, Outlook, and whatever the other one is...not so bad fuel economy, real room in the back, still oversized but with a car like ride...you can probably get a deal on those too....
my two cents
