OK, SAAB Dealer called me for an update on my 2002 Arc. Fuel pump installed, runs. Ongoing coolant loss. I nicely told them, 2.5 years of ownership and coolant continues to leak. So even though the warranty expires on the 6th, they started working on the coolant loss. Mind you, we are talking a slow leak. About 6-8 weeks, the reservoir needs filled (low coolant light). Mechanic said after tearing into it, the oil-to-water cooler is leaking at some O-rings. So he ordered the reseal kit. Today they pulled off the cooler and he said the underside is corroded badly and full of tiny pinholes. So ordering a new cooler kit. I said "this is because of Dexcool I bet". No comment from Dealer. Anyway, they are fixing lots of stuff, all under warranty. I said while you have it torn down to put in a new thermostat. Still they quoted me $287 to install, even though the major labor is done. Should I or shouldn't I pay that? So, do we trust the car on a vacation through territory that has no SAAB Dealers? I'd like to drive it but we may have to take the Wife's 1999 Mercury Mountaineer AWD V8. It's a gas-hog but it's reliability has been stellar. Mountaineer gets 16-18 MPG on the road if I'm lucky and likes Premium to avoid pinging. Only 71K miles on it. So that's my SAAB Story for today. I love Allan's 3 brilliant suggestions. Kind of like owning an older Jaguar - drive one and tow the spare car behind for parts. SAAB probably wishes they never sold me this car with a CPO warranty. I'm suspecting the warranty work since I bought the car in 02/2006 has totaled close to $10,000. Majors are 2 turbochargers, exhaust system including catalyst, rear struts, interior center console, fuel pump, 2 oil coolers, and so on.
