Different brand tires, front to back, isn't much of an issue. Loss of control is usually caused by lateral asymmetry (different brand left front to right front). Both being cheap brand is more of a problem, but you said it drives OK.
I just changed the torque mount on my '02, and I think the shifting seems smoother, also the neutral to drive or reverse seems smoother. This at 60Kmi.
