OK CEL codes and two cracks on my back DI cassette point to the all to common DI failure. Lots of oil in the plug holes has us thinking head gasket failure too.

this is about a 1999 V6 120 miles.

My buddy is a Saab indie and has some comments I want to float here. He states that just because the "fingers" are cracked it doesn't mean the DI has failed. Of course we know the tell tale oil leak helps but when my system was covered in motor oil it's to hard to tell. He told me to take the black cover off and examine the capacitors and "stuff" in there for failure, not the black covers "fingers". He has extra covers and says I can come grab one to test. It will be a few days before I can get to his shop out of town and I wanted your ideas.

Yes I know I can get a new one for $180 from europarts but I really don't have the $$$ these days to waste and am always looking for a new fix. I cannot tell you how many times I have repaired "disposable" electronics on cars just to get more years of service.

His thought is the crack on the cover is from cheap plastic and heat and since my error code was for cyl #3 and both #1 & #3 (where there are cracks) his theory may be correct. Possible the excessive oil caused spark issues or possible the wide split in the black cover shifted the contact.

Ari or anyone want to chime in on this?
Should we really be looking for the condition of the stuff inside and not the fingers?
