When I said in my other post that I torque them, it's not always with a torque wrench. I use a 12" breaker bar with a 1/2 drive. I turn it until it feels right. And when I do check it, it's around the correct spec. I do the same on spark plugs. Have done this for years, so maybe I have a slightly calibrated arm or something. On wheels, I think it's more important that the lugs are all equally tight and that it's done in a cross pattern than for it to be exactly 85 pounds or whatever.
IMHO, I think worrying about the exact torque specs on some things is overkill. Tighten them up. Drive a few miles. Check them again, and you're done.
