I have had CEL's self-clear.... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Fri, 29 Aug 2008 09:47:45 In Reply to: Self-Clearing CEL?, Stephen Goldberger, Fri, 29 Aug 2008 08:25:59 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
When I was having problems with my aftermarket BPV and before I bought a Code Reader, the CEL would illuminate in response to a bad diaphragm.
I knew what the problem was (after the first Dealer trip) so I would replace the diaphragm and wait 2 or 3 days. I think it took 8 start cycles to auto-clear the CEL caused by the BPV. The car has to run long enough to achieve a certain engine temperature before the ECU counts it as a Start Cycle.
Now I Read'em, Fix 'em, and Clear 'em. Or Read'em and take the car to someone who can fix what I can't.
