I am guessing that whatever event happened, it would be stored in the ECU eventhough it did not persist long enough for the CEL to illuminate. Aftermarket code readers can only display what triggered the CEL, not what events are being stored that can cause a triggering in the near future if they continue.
Your description sounds like a misfire. How old are the plugs? How old is the IDM/DIC? 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder?
