Sounds normal to me, too. Standard idle is about 850 RPM, which is 99.44% probably what you car is doing, but the tach is a little "off" (I've a friend with an NG900 that reads 1000 RPM at idle. Tech 2 says it's spot on 850...).
Your last automatic may also have come with a carb. Trionic will do everything it can to maintain that 850 RPM idle, while a carb will probably get bogged down and not go anyplace. So, you slip it in gear, let off the brake, and the T7 will automatically compensate for the load. And, with no brakes, guess who is going for a ride?
I'm with Mike, I can't understand what behavior you are expecting from the car, ESPECIALLY if you're heading down hill! If you put a manual trans in neutral or push in the clutch, does it not roll down hills also? In fact, a manual in that state may reach a higher speed.
Engine braking is almost unusable at such low engine speeds, so it should not be a factor at all.
As for your brake wear, they aren't wearing if you're stopped, right? But you still, in two posts, have not mentioned whether the emergency brake was on or off. ***IF*** the e-brake **IS** engaged, and the car rolls, then the e-brake needs maintenance, But if that lever is all the way down, then the car is working properly.
Above all, if you don't mean for the car to move, WHY are you putting it in gear with the brakes off?
