Unfortunately, I don't read this site daily so some of what I say may have already been addressed. Anyway, welcome to the 9-5 world and here's my 2 bits worth. Hope it helps.
If your 100 mile commute is mostly highway, you will have many years and miles ahead of you. I have a '99lpt with 230k and an '01 with 190k on them. They have both had the turbos replaced but the bodies don't seem to rust, trannies (stick) are solid, and the core of the engines are bullet proof....zero oil consumption between changes. With long drives the exhaust will last forever and I've never done a clutch, alternator, starter, master cylinder, water pump or any of the standard things I would expect from previous cars. You will do tie rod ends, ball joints, bearings, and a host of other minor things but over the long haul, the cost and inconvenience per mile is minimal. I would recommend changing the idler pulley every 60-70k. The melted plastic is an ugly mess when it decides to seize. From experience, I would stay away from synthetic if your drive involves sitting still in traffic for part of your commute. This only applies to the hot summer months because the catalytic converter sits right under the oil pan, burns the oil to a powder like soot, and then clogs the sump. It happened to me but fortunately it was caught in time.
I drive about 130 miles a day and, all in all after over 30 years of driving various cars, I can say the Saab 9-5 is A LOT of car for the money. It's built for driving the long haul with a nice balance of efficiency (600+ miles per tank) and plenty of power. Enjoy!
