Trick to reset throttle body / limp home

I just don't have the feel for this. I'm trying to do this with the throttle body still on the car. I stand in front, reach under with my left hand and pull the metal lever on the bottom toward the front the car. This leaves my right hand to try to move the black plastic cogged wheel towards the firewall. I can't get it to move. I can try to use a screwdriver as a lever to do it, but am afraid of applying too much force. The descriptions here make it sound simple, but so far it escapes me. Any hints?
Thank you.
