It's not because of your tire selection. The 215 55 16's are supposed to be very close to the 225 45 17's (at least my owner's manual says that this 16" size is the recommended snow tire size for my Aero.) Having said that, the general consensus is that our speedometers are off by ~ 3 mph (on the safe side, as it were.) The way to verify this is to use a portable navigation device. It seems to be true on my speedo at all speed levels.
