Howdy, Would one of you help me interpret a bench test result?
I popped the alternator out of the 2002 AERO and took it to the auto parts shop to bench-test it.
The nice but unknowledgable person working there could not interpret the system she was using to bench test it, except to read the "FAILED" at the top of the page.
It was putting out 11.3 volts, not 14 (this is bad). "Ripple volts" = 0 (supposedly good).
In addition, the test said:
Diode Trio FAILED
V Regulator FAILED
Rectifier test PASSED
Can I replace the voltage regulator or should the whole alternator be replaced? Like where is the diode? Should I put in a voltage regulator and then bench-test it again? That might be a $120 test, if I couldn't return the VR.
I wonder if the diode is part of the VR unit. The VR brushes seemed ok to me. They're like 1.5cm long, still had plenty of spring enough to hold them against the shaft. Maybe I should go to another place?
cheers,
