and by reading about them yours are about to die....Eeuroparts has the deal for $120 next day delivery for one (free S&H)...you should buy the pair...also bulbs com has them for $99 plus S&H. They are not cheap and the replacement can be a little complicated. I had to remove the battery and the air intake hose to allow for room to maneuver (make sure you have rubber/latex gloves)....although more expensive, I went with the site sponsor.....
self leveling occurs when turning on the car and lights on. It does not occur when the car is on and the lights switched on (at least in my '03). I think that there may be some auto adjustments if you go up or down hill, because of the intensity of the lights they may temporarily blind someone, but I have not seen anything noticeable...they don't adjust when you turn around corners (I was disappointed about this)
flickering should NOT happen. I noticed that mine were doing it way before I replaced the bulbs, probably a sign that they were dying.
