Clear check engine codes long enough to pass smog?HELP

I have a '00 Aero that I for years have not been able to get rid of a check engine light on. The car things there's a problem with a rear O2 sensor and there isn't. It's been replaced--the O2 sensor is fine--and the car passes emissions with flying colors.
No shop can do anything about this without pointlessly replacing thousands in parts. If the car passes smog though (with very good scores I might add) I just can't spend thousands replacing wiring and a CAT just to get rid of a light.
My smog is now due. I pulled fuse 17 and put it back in to get rid of the light and drove it in for testing, but they knew that I'd screwed with the system somehow. The car passed emissions with flying colors, but they failed me anyway.
This is a nightmare. Is there an inexpesive Tech-II type thing I can buy that will clear the codes and the light long enough for me to pass smog but not trip they're tests that the system isn't functioning?
Any help appreciated--I cannot afford this unnecessary repair!
