Are you talking about the all-in-one key? The newer version with the button fob built into the head of the key? That one came out in 2001. 1999-2000 had the two-piece key with the "banana" remote, but maybe you or a previous owner upgraded to the new key. If you're talking about the all-in-one, my best advice is to bring it to the dealer, honestly. I brought my first key in and they did it, battery and labor for $4 out the door. The second time I went with my other key the guy broke the key. Even with the Saab specific battery changing tool he managed to break the plastic on the key. He said it happens VERY often and many dealers have complained to Saab about the poor design but they refuse to change it. He gave me a brand new key for free, I just had to run home and get the other one to be programmed and he didn't charge me for the battery. So. Moral of the story, do it yourself and risk breaking it, or bring it to the dealer and if they break it, get a whole new one!
