you need it on, here in Toronto, because as others have pointed out, it is an all-encompassing system working with the wheel sensors. It completely defeats the purpose.
I have ESP on my MY05 Arc Wagon, with decent All-Season tires (Ovation, a private branded Yokohama). Worked really well, on Sheppard west of Leslie the other day, passing lots of other cars, slaloming up the hill. I don't hear the buzz - I am too busy paying attention to the road!
We don't have it on our MY99 Wagon, but we do have the W button for Winter mode (third gear) starts. I have to convince my wife that she should use. I will probably switch cars after the next oil change...
