About the only other way to "fix" the issue, goes something like this:
(from a reliable source)
Get the radio and changer from the "donor" car, along with the donor car's VIN code.
Install radio & changer in second 9-5. (note: I'm told you don't have to "divorce" the original radio & changer, but it can't hurt, just to be safe, in case anything goes wrong)
Using Tech 2 (and this should be done by a tech, not a novice with a borrowed Tech 2), change the VIN of the receiving car to the VIN of the donor car.
Using Tech 2, divorce the changer and radio from the car.
Remove "divorced" components.
Reset the VIN on the car to its original number.
Test car by starting...
Re-install original radio & changer.
Caveat:
I have never actually done this, and I am pretty sure it's not officially supported, but it should work (just don't try to run the car with the wrong VIN in there...) from what the tech told me.
So, you need access to another 9-5 that uses the same radio, and someone with a Tech 2.
Whatever you do, if you take the radio & changer, get the VIN of the car they came from. It's your only hope...
