As Dick said in his message, Dexron-III has been replaced by Dexron-VI, they jumped from 3 to 6 in one step!. Although this change happened back in the fall of 2005 (IIRC), I have not yet seen Dexron-VI on any local auto parts store shelves and no one is allowed to market fluids labeled as Dexron-III! So this leads to some pretty creative labeling practices. The last tranny oil I bought was Texaco MD3 fluid, i.e. code for Mercor Dexron-III, since Mercury/Lincoln cars used the Dexron-III fluid (called Mercor by Ford) rather than the Ford Type-F fluid which gives more aggressive/harsh shifts.
