I don't know that I'll ever feel quite as "at home" in the Passat as I ever felt in either the 9000 or the 9-5, that is for sure, and it was not an easy decision to part with the 9-5. It was only after a year living with my wife's VW EOS hardtop convertible that I determined I was comfortable enough with VW reliability to even consider another VW. Our 2001 VW Beetle TDI was fraught with issues that we had to work through, although some were covered by CPO. At least my Passat was actually made in Germany; VW assembly plants are worldwide these days. The EOS was put together in Portugal and my daughter's Jetta was assembled in Mexico, but I will admit that I'm not sure I could tell the difference if I did not know the assembly point. I did hedge my bets with an extended warranty, and I have 3-years of no cost maintenance that is now standard with 3/36 base warranty for 2009 instead of 4/50 warranty without the maintenance from previous model years.
