So my right rear woofer was starting to rattle. I thought it was simply blown (read below) so headed over to my local Crutchfield and picked up a set of JBL 6x9 two ways. I know I can't use the tweeter as the rears are crossed over to low freq only. But bass rattle drives me effin nuts.

I have an '03 9-5 Aero with the HK system. Did a test w/ a JBL on one side and OEM on the other ... and don't see the JBL as much of an upgrade, perhaps just a tick less bass even. Hard to tell. Likely just "different" bass response.

I can't for the life of me find a one-way 6x9 woofer out there. Does anyone know of one, or who sells one?

Rather than spend $150 on two ways that I can't even really use, in the meantime I'm trying to fix my broken speaker since I now see what's wrong. The speaker foam (flexible part) is glued to the metal speaker frame then has a plastic "rim" glued on top. The adhesive can become old and the plastic rim begin to rattle. Enter polypropylene seam sealer (for tents). I've used this stuff to repair all sorts of things and it's quite simply magic. I slathered it on using a brush taken from one of my discarded "Just For Men" (yes you read correctly) beard coloring kits (I always knew they'd come in handy). I also am hoping the sealer will fix two rips I made in the foam/paper as I tried to pry the rest of the plastic rim off. So I slathered around the outside top edge too, hoping for some magic. The adhesive dries very strong, yet is somewhat flexible. So I've got my fingers crossed.

But if anyone has a suggestion for a speaker upgrade, that'd be awesome. I wouldn't mind a little more kick. The OEM rear speakers are kind of shabby imho in terms of sound.

Thanks,

Nemo
