In addition to failing as your CPS did, my original V6 CPS sensor was dribbling a bit of oil. In this case its O-ring was hardened and a bit flat.
The round body of the sensor has a sealing O-ring that engages a machined groove around the hole it sticks in to. The sensor is held in place by a small bolt through a flange off to one side (not a high pressure area). Unless the groove is cleaned out thoroughly and the fresh sensor and O-ring perfectly placed, I could see it leaking. Tightening the flange bolt won't help since its off to one side. In fact overdoing it would propably crack the plastic flange even with the little metal ring pressed in to the sensor bolt hole.
In addition to cleaning out the groove around the hole with alcohol and cotton swabs, I buttered up the sensor O-ring with a bit of black RTV sealant. One year on and no leakage at all.
As was said, the location is a pain to get at and I really took my time preparing and carefully installing the sensor. I can see if one was in a hurry this could leak.
