Your analogy of "knotocking on a door" is worrisome - a deep knocking is usually a rod bearing, whereas a lighter sound is a tappet. It used to be easy on older engines to identify a rod bearing knock by removing the plug wire - it would diminish as the load was reduced, but this isn't possible to do with the DIC. You could have an oil analysis done and it would tell you if a bearing, so would a change to 40 wt oil temporarily as the sound would probably go away. I would not drive it far until you have a better idea.
