You will enjoy this car. I have a 2001 Aero with 127,000 miles.
Here is my advice:
1. Put Konis on the rear. I bought mine from http://www.genuinesaab.com. Set the damping 1/4 up from full soft. Also make sure you use the upper mount for the rear springs. they come set in the lower, but the upper is necessary for proper ride height. This setting will also make up for possible spring sag in a car of this age.
2. While you are ordering from Genuinesaab, get one of the transmission torque arm bushing kits. I think it is $35.00. this will locate the transmission better and help shifting a lot. Can guarantee reverse will be better, but evrything else will be better. Can be installed from the top of the car in 1/2 hour or less. Best $35 I ever spent on this car.
3. make sure you have PCV#6 done on the car. Not expensive but worth it.
Other advice. Check those records for heater control valve replacement. It is rare that this part will make it to 100,000 miles.
Also look to see if the engine mounts have been replace or checked. These are pretty soft and of the hydraulic type and they can get bad in th mileage you have. this is another good value for what is invested.
I hope you have a good independent mechanic. If not, ask this list for a recommendation in your area. I am in Los Angles and swear by Walter Wong at the Right Solution.
this list in invaluable with advice and recommendations on this car. AND this is a very reliable vehicle and should go over 300,000 if properly cared for.
