Our 2000 9-5 (84,000 miles) is now making a faint "clunk" noise when you begin to accelerate from a stop. This noise is very subtle, but it is noticeable to the driver. I opened the hood, had the wife accelerate the engine (in park) and did not notice any excessive movement of the engine (thus ruling out the motor mounts). So, I am thinking that this noise may possibly be due to a transmission mount. My question therefore is whether this is indeed due to a worn transmission mount? If so, how many transmission mounts are there? Where are they? And how big of a deal is it to replace the transmission mount?

All opinions of the learned members of this bulletin board are greatly appreciated!
